The quiet day didn't last long did it?! The hangover served me right for drinking around a whole bottle of wine, but the meal was long and we were all happily chatting and suddenly it had gone. I had the most yummy chicken and asparagus risotto, mmmm.
I don't deserve any sympathy though as it was totally self inflicted but thank you for the messages. I think the worst of it was having just an hour's sleep when I got in and then having little one crying and crying and ending up spending the night on the sofa in front of QVC with her nibs periodically using me as a climbing frame. How is it that the cuddliest of children is suddenly all elbows when they do that?
But I have eaten bagels (sadly no bacon in the house, though I would like some) and drunk tea and feeling much perked up. We've been out in the sun again, I now have an upside down sand table that I really don't want to pick up because I then have to see all the sand underneath, and the window cleaner is possibly scarred for life from having big one shout "Mr Blobby" nonstop at him while little one laughed but never mind!
Anyway, the real reason I am back (apart from my terrible addiction to blogging!) is that I've had another fiddle with the fireplace. The tiles in the hearth are horrible, really rough and black and can't be cleaned. Plus naturally I managed to get paint on them in my own slapdash style! Sooo, I got to thinking about the leftover bathroom marble tiles. I went in the garage to get out some of the kids' toys and there were quite a few of both the larger and the smaller tiles still boxed up. I brought them in, had a fiddle around and ended up with larger tiles bordered by the smaller ones. They aren't grouted in or anything and not perfect of course but I think it's a big improvement!
Before...
After...
This time I really will go for good! Happy St Patricks Day xxx

What a woman, you battle a hangover and come up with a nifty tiling solution to your open fireplace!
Looks fab by the way.
Hope you have a quieter night tonight.

Oh I like the tiles that looks really nice. So no housework but theres washing on the line and you've been fiddling with tiles! Honestly woman you never stop.
And I hope Mr Man will be cooking this evening seeings as he's been totally spoiled today with an Irish Breakfast AND a free lunch!
Hi! Thank you for visiting my blog and for leaving such a lovely message! I love creating art for children so to hear that your daughter actually kissed the screen is so amazing! I must be doing something right :)
Your blog is great- I laughed out loud at the Mr.Blobby bit! Will be back again soon.

The tiles look lovely. In a previous house we had 1930's fireplaces and the ones upstairs were turquoise. I debated for ages what to do about them and eventually painted them cream. They suddenly looked great!
How satisfying is that to see the washing hanging happily on the line in the warm sunshine.
The fireplace looks great.
Take care

Well, that wasn't what I'd visualised when I wished you a 'calm' day! I think the tiles really work well. It's wonderful to use up all the odds and ends instead of go shopping for something new, isn't it?
Thanks Mel, I'll give that a go when I've got my technical head on.

I agree, your hearth looks much better - well done! - Hope you got over the hangover - I am useless at them - 2 large glasses of wine is my limit, anything over that and I know I will have a headache the next day - still, it sounds like you had fun - Have a lovely week - Natalie x
I don't know where you get the time or energy to fit in all that you do in a day!
The fireplace definitely looks fabulous with the new tiles, it always feels so much more satisfying when you don't have to spend any extra money on making something look good doesn't it?
Look forward to seeing what you get up to next!
There's nothing wrong with a hangover girl! Admittedly it's much harder to handle when you have children, but it is often a sign of good times had by all! I could just eat a bagel.....
Hiya, so sorry i have missed a few posts. I have been busy as a bee trying to complete the re-design of our website. Not ready yet, but almost there. I LOVE that risotto at prezzo's. Yummy. I havent been there in quite awhile. Trying to let the bank account recover! Hangovers are so awful and since I have had kids I just dont drink. I cant bear the thought of having to be "mummy" with such a terrible headache etc. Saying that, my son is 18 so he probably wouldnt need me to be "mummy" but our 10 year old is still full of beans and requires TONS of attention! hahaha! Glad to hear you are feeling better and that you had a good time at Prezzo's.
See a hangover inspires creativity!
V. good idea for the hearth! Lx
nothing quite like bacon for ridding you of a hangover is there!!?
I love the tiles, you've done a smashing job. the basket looks great in there too, very nice!

A bacon bagle! now thats an idea!
glad you took it easy.... I hate to think what you get done when your feeling good! lol
Hope you had a better nights sleep last night

Glad you are feeling better. Surprisingly I didn't have a hangover on sunday after the party but I put that down to having about 10 hours sleep! Your fireplace looks great and I love the pic of the shamrocks. I think you can tell something about a person by how they hang socks on the line!! I also hang them by the toe and when we were first married it used to infuriate me if my husband hung them by the ankle, so much so that I would repeg them all! But you are very organised hanging them in pairs, I don't do that!

Fireplace looks lovely! Hope the hangover is on its way out, I have typed this as quietly as possible so as not to add to the headache! Take care

The tiles look really nice! x
Lovely do over on your fireplace. Sorry you are not feeling tops, sometimes that happens. Found your link on the beach cottage and really enjoyed reading all your creative posts.
My dad's birthday is on the 27th! what a small world!

The fireplace is lovely Mel. I have a thing for fireplaces anyway - love them.
Glad you are feeling better :-)
Thanks for your message, and by the way I rather liked the 'poured on' style of the hundreds and thousands!
Love Charlotte

That is so funny about your kids shouting at the window cleaner.
The fireplace looks great...still! Neat picture of the clover too.
